Lionel has been married to Stacy Quackenbush Young, his high school sweetheart, for more than 30 years. Together they have three boys, one daughter (in-law) and one granddaughter. After thirty years of pastoral ministry, Lionel is now devoting his life to providing education for underserved pastors and leaders in the non-Western world. His blog articles will be devoted to books and ideas that have changed his life.

Lionel and Stacy

Lionel serves as the Vice President and Chief Growth Officer for Global Action, an international non-profit that focuses on making theological education accessible for underserved leaders in the non-Western world. Lionel holds a PhD from the University of Stirling (Scotland) where he did his doctoral work under the British historian David W. Bebbington. He also holds a ThM in ecclesiastical history from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (IL), an M.Div. in pastoral theology from Grace Theological Seminary (IN) and a BA in Biblical Studies and Psychology from Grace College (IN).

Lionel has served as a pastor for more than 30 years in the United States, with significant experience leading in small and large church settings. He has served as a theological lecturer in Africa, Asia and Latin America where he will continue his work. Lionel is also a Research Associate at the Cambridge Centre for Christianity Worldwide and has special interests in East Africa, Transatlantic Evangelicalism and World Christianity. He is a contributor to the Dictionary of African Christian Biography (Boston University) and is currently working on several writing projects, including his forthcoming book, How the Gospel is Turning the World Upside Down (2019).
